The 2024 American supernatural horror film “Tarot movie “ is the first feature film that Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg have ever directed. The movie, which is based on Nicholas Adams’ 1992 novel Horrorscope, stars Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, Humberly González, Larsen Thompson, Olwen Fouéré, and Jacob Batalon. A group of college students who use an enigmatic Tarot deck begins experiencing horrific deaths; this is the central theme of the story. The secrets of the deck need to be revealed before it’s too late. To celebrate Elise’s birthday, a group of friends—Haley, Grant, Paxton, Paige, Madeline, Lucas, and Elise—rent a mansion in the Catskills. As a result of Haley and Grant’s recent separation, tensions between them rise, so they decide to divert their attention by having Haley read their horoscopes using an odd deck of tarot cards they discover in the basement. With the prediction that she will “climb the ladder of success,” Elise picks The High Priestess; Lucas pulls The Hermit; Madeline draws The Hanged Man; Paige draws The Magician; and Paxton draws The Fool. An dispute breaks out as Haley reveals Grant’s card is The Devil, indicating he is undermining their relationship. Haley finally pulls her own card—Death.

The friends head back to campus the next day. A monstrous incarnation of The High Priestess bludgeons Elise to death with a ladder in a gruesome murder. The Hermit kills Lucas in a train station after he gets hit by a fast-moving train. The tarot readings uncannily correspond with each death, making the group believe the deck is cursed.

They search online for a tarot and occult specialist named Alma Astron because they are desperate for answers. Alma recognises the cards as being from an astrologer from the eighteenth century who worked for a Hungarian Count. The Count was so distraught that he had the astrologer’s daughter assassinated when the astrologer’s prophecy that the Count’s wife and child would die in labour came true. The astrologer, furious, killed herself after using her cards to curse the Count and his friends to death. Tarot reading groups have experienced several massacres as a result of the cursed deck. Alma suggests that because the deck is still at the estate, they should burn it.

The Hanged Man kills Madeline as their car breaks down on the way back. Fearing for his life, Paxton leaves the group and heads back to campus, where The Fool pursues him. Although they return to the mansion, Haley, Grant, and Paige are unable to burn the cards. They ask Alma for help once more. Alma tries to call upon the astrologer’s ghost, but the Six of Swords is used by the spirit to murder her.

On the way back, as their car breaks down, Madeline is killed by the Hanged Man. Paxton flees the group out of fear for his life and returns to school, where The Fool follows him. Haley, Grant, and Paige manage to return to the estate, but they are unable to burn the cards. Again, they turn to Alma for assistance. When Alma tries to summon the astrologer’s ghost, the spirit uses the Six of Swords to murder her.
